What to do with kids at home

Printables, educational shows, crafts, & more

By Admin March 16, 2020

Here we are, Myrtle Beach moms, at home with our kids. Our facebook group has been active trying to figure out this new normal, asking questions and providing suggestions. Keeping focused on activities and spending time with our families will help us get through these times.

Here are some ideas to fill your days:

Create a schedule

There are so many recommendations for a schedule to get through the days, with half-hour increments including educational videos, reading, outdoor time, family game time, lunch, and crafts. Create your own or print off this learning schedule from Kiwi Crate.

Try this Lego Game

Madison Mom offers 14 activities for 14 days. #3 is a fantastic idea for old legos - put three objects on sticky notes (like a cat, mouse, and flower) and let the kids construct one. You have to choose which one it is! It’s like Pictionary with Legos!

Take a walk

Getting outside in nature reduces stress because it helps keep your mind filled less with worry, according to research. Take the family for a walk around your neighborhood, or check out one of these places in the Myrtle Beach area for a scenic walk.

Put together a puzzle

Puzzles are a great activity to practice concentration - and also take up a lot of time! Melissa & Doug floor puzzles are always a favorite, the jigsaw pattern blocks are fun for little ones (in the photo), and if you are really ambitious, go for a 5,000 piece puzzle

Experiment & Craft

Kiwi Crate’s parent toolkit includes crafts by age, with all sorts of experiments and crafts for kids to learn and have fun.

Watch an educational video

Playful Paper rounded up a great selection of educational videos for kids, like a bubble science video and bible stories.

Good luck, moms! Share your suggestions and links to your family’s favorite crafts & resources for things to do while kids are home.
